Fit Friday: Raise A Glass to 2016!

It’s actually here, the last few days of 2016 are upon us and a New year is on the horizon. I am a big fan of New Years. This could be due to the fact there is a high volume of sparkly things and corks of bubbly popping everywhere or because I love an excuse to reflect and reset. Either way I love it and look forward to it. Instead of mourning the loss of this past year and commenting on how fast it flew by, I like to relish in all that has happened and look forward to an even better year ahead. Don’t we do better once we pick up a few tricks along the way, learn from our mistakes and find what we really enjoy? I think it is common to be cautious of change and to fear the unknown- but if you look at change as exciting and a chance to make things even better, do more of what you like and make the changes you wish to make—I think change could …

Wellness Wednesday: Detox To Retox w/ Charcoal

With one holiday over and another on the horizon there’s one word I’ve been focusing on this week: DETOX. After consuming more than I usually do (especially in the cocktail department) I am in need of some serious detoxing before we pop another cork this weekend. The recent buzzword for detoxing in the health and wellness circuit has been activated charcoal. I first saw it used in a drink on a trip to DC a few years ago. I went to a juice bar looking for something to help with jet-lag and jump start my system and the sales associate suggested a ginger/lemon juice with activated charcoal. I was hesitant at first because I never saw charcoal used in this way (the color of the juice was black!), but took a chance and actually felt much better after I finished the juice. It took some getting used to and I have to admit the color was the hardest thing to get passed, but after awhile I didn’t notice it as much and the energizing effect …

Motivation Monday: R&R To Slim

With the New Year approaching and the time off I’ve had for the holidays there’s been plenty of time to reflect on this past year and more importantly on what I plan for the upcoming one. Starting this blog has been more than a creative outlet for me, it’s almost therapeutic and with content research I feel like I’ve been learning a ton and been given an excuse to learn more about the things I’m interested in. While I don’t plan on slowing down with content about health and wellness, I will say all trending diet and claims I’ve covered thus far inspired me to set an intention for the New Year and write this post. I plan to do away with any restrictive eating, activity, mindset, etc. in the New Year. Why? Because the one certainty I’ve found about dieting is-the more you restrict, count, and even think about your diet or losing weight, the further you are setting yourself back. This concept can be extremely difficult for people to grasp because control is …

Fit Friday: Cookie Swap

During the holidays you can count on an influx of sweets-especially cookies when going to parties, cookie exchanges and work gatherings. For me, the homemade variety is always worth the splurge in the calorie department-especially if it’s a family recipe that was passed down generation to generation or there is some other significance behind it. This time of year only comes around once a year after all! I also prefer homemade treats because there is a greater chance the ingredients are closer to whole or natural and have less nasty chemicals and unknowns in them than the store-bought variety. Whatever your preference, if you are looking to stay fit and healthy throughout the season it can be daunting to find something you can bring to one of these gatherings. Especially something that won’t derail your healthy eating habits and also hold it’s own in the yummy and taste department. Well I’m here to make it simply fit for you, so I present my two go-to cookie recipes that scream holiday festiveness and bring that wave …

Wellness Wednesday: Peppermint

Tis the season for giving, caroling and peppermint. Peppermint flavored coffees, candies and lotions starts with the first mention of the holiday season and doesn’t let up until after New Years. I thought it would be a perfect time to elaborate on the seasonal ingredient and possibly surprise you with the laundry list of health benefits it brings. Peppermint and it’s treatment for a variety of symptoms and ailments is not something new. The use of peppermint leaves, essential oil, and tea has been something humans used for centuries yet there is still so much we can learn about it. Peppermint is best known for the cooling effect it can have on the body due to its high amounts of menthol. What most people may not know (yet I find the most interesting) is peppermint contains manganese, copper, vitamin c and has antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. I promised short and straight to the point this week, so lets cover the most interesting uses and the ones that I personally find to be true. Top …

Motivation Monday: HoliDAZE

I aim to keep the posts this week short and straight to the point. Not because I’m uninspired or don’t have much to say (ha!) but more because I’m positive I’m not alone in feeling the pressure of the season and am down to the wire for holiday shopping and prep for this week’s festivities. I’d like my info/reading straight up-no chaser this week. You too? To keep focused and motivated this week I thought it would be fitting to include some motivational material to help rock out this week so we can get all our to-do lists complete and enjoy time with family and friends. 5 Things To Remember To Keep You Sane & Inspired You can’t be everywhere-unfortunately we aren’t able to send a clone to attend engagements/appointements in our place so for now we need to accept that choosing one thing and being present for it matters more than trying to squeeze in multiple events/appointments where you’re just thinking about the next thing You can’t be everyone-I’ve talked about choosing one or two …

Fit Friday: Festive Pomegranate Bark

Holiday season is in full swing and I could not be more in the spirit! I am indulging in the festiveness this time of year brings in a BIG way. I found myself indulging a little too much this week with all the treats and gifts coming through our home and at work. To ensure I don’t go too far off the deep end, I am keeping up with my regular workouts and making a plan to meal prep and prepare some things that satisfy my cravings that I know are nutritious too. The most important thing to remember around the holidays is to not make such a big deal or beat yourself up over the foods you don’t always have. Giving these foods power over you by labeling them “bad” or off limits will only make you want them more and indulge later. Pick up the brownie, enjoy every bite and move on. With that said. It is always a good idea to set yourself up for success by bringing healthy options to your gathering …
