Motivation Monday: Facing Your Fears

This past week I’ve had a lot of time to reflect and take into account where I am and where I’d like to be. I think this is so important to do from time to time, no matter where you’re at in your career/life, how old you are, etc. Even if you believe you’re ‘satisfied’, doing a temperature check once in awhile is never a bad thing. I wish I could remember the source to site it here, but I remember listening to a podcast a while back and during the interview someone referenced music and how the simple act of listening to music (that brings you joy) your mood is lifted and you are more likely to do great things. So I invite you to turn up that volume, take note of what you want for yourself and GO AFTER IT. It will not get any easier by wishing it to happen or having a goal that you’re not doing anything to get closer to. Take that first step, no matter how difficult it …

Fit Friday: And The Oscar Goes To…

This Sunday the Oscars come into town. I have always enjoyed award shows, the pomp and circumstance of it all including the fashion (I was a fashion major back in college so always have a soft spot for it!) and seeing everyone dress up and come together to celebrate the arts, it’s just so fun! Since I am lucky enough to be married to someone who enjoys movies as much as I do (maybe even a little more) we have made an effort to see the nominated movies each year so we can participate in the build up and anticipation of the night. We enjoy making ballots, orchestrating drinking games and even creating cocktails and appetizers inspired by the nominated pictures. This year we decided to keep it low key and just stick with one cocktail and app since we are still recovering from last weekend’s festivities. Simple and fit is what we are after and lucky for us, that’s my specialty. I went with a simple cocktail that keeps you hydrated and is low …

Wellness Wednesday: Choosing The Variety Pack

Should we eat the same thing day in day out? This is a topic I struggle with because I feel like it really depends on the week or circumstance. In my opinion there are two answers to this question and both are equally correct. If you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle then yes, eat the same thing everyday. If you would like to absorb as many nutrients as possible, then be sure to eat a variety of foods. I find I go through patterns when it comes to my meal planning. There are some weeks when I am focused on a goal or just get in a groove of meals that are working so I end up eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch and don’t get bored with it. There are also some weeks when I have leftovers to use up, feel like my meals have been monotonous, or I am craving a specific nutrient. Whatever the reason, mixing in a variety of foods that week is what I need. Some studies …

Motivation Monday: Cheers to 30 Years

It’s going to be tough to keep this short and sweet because this past weekend was spectacular…and to give it the credit it deserves will be tough to wrap up in a few paragraphs (but I will try to keep it simple!). Since Mondays are all about spirit on MSF and feeding that spirit with motivation, inspiration and drive for overall wellness, I thought this past weekend I spent celebrating turning 30 with some of my favorite humans is very fitting. There is nothing more fulfilling than being around those that build you up, create a positive atmosphere and love you unconditionally. I don’t think there was a moment this weekend where anyone in the house felt judged, out of place or uncomfortable. When you have friends and family that do this for you, hold on to them and don’t take it for granted. If you aren’t in a place in your life where you feel you need support, or don’t have a particular part of you that needs uplifting or encouragement, S P R …

Fit Friday: You Have My Heart 4 Ingredient Truffles

Happy Friday! Was it just me or did this week seem to DRAG? It could be because I am on my way out of town for a weekend away, or just because there’s been a lot going on. Whatever the reason, I am extremely grateful and in need of  a trip to one of my absolute favorite places. I will do a follow-up “recap” post with all the highlights. Stay tuned! Until then, I’m still in Valentines Day mode because…why not? Love is in the air and it’s been fun to see the romantic side of everyone. The other thing I can’t get enough of is all the holiday treats, especially the chocolate. Ugh the chocolate. Just because we’re on MSF doesn’t mean we have to miss out on all the decadent treats this time of year. Yes we’re trying to stay fit and mindful of our habits, but it’s important to maintain balance in everything. I like to incorporate something healthy in my treats (as you may have noticed) but also cook with as …

Wellness Wednesday: Caffeine Fix For Your Skin

While I love showing all those around me how much they mean to me this time of year, I have a soft spot for showing my love some love. I reserve a special spot in my Valentine’s Day celebrations for my “valentine”, and this year marks our seventh one together. It’s fun to get dressed up and go somewhere fancy, order food in, or even decorate the house and cook something out of the ordinary (bonus points if it’s heart-shaped). Whatever says special to you is what really matters and nothing makes a night out or in with your valentine more meaningful than primping and feeling your best. To prepare for any date night I like to squeeze in a workout and then take an extra long shower, taking care to not only do the necessities (shave, wash hair, etc) but also to splurge and incorporate something that will make the ritual unique. With this recent winter weather (yes it’s been cold even here in sunny SD) my skin has been feeling especially dry and ashy. There …

Motivation Monday: Love Is Love

There are a lot of opposing opinions about Valentines Day and I honestly I can relate to both sides. It’s a Hallmark-inflated holiday that appears to be created in the hopes of taking advantage of those in the puppy-love stage or needing to fan the flame on their long term relationship. On the flip side, it’s incredibly tempting to get swept up in the pink and red heart-shaped goodies, seasonal flowers and decadent chocolates all in the celebration of love. For me, I look at it as an excuse to show all those in my life-friends, family and hubby how much they mean to me. We could all use a little love once in awhile, so how can that be bad? An excuse to be festive doesn’t hurt either… So yes, I’m pro-valentines day and if the talk of Cupid’s arrows, Valentine’s Day treats and photos of countless heart-shaped desserts makes you ill, I suggest you circle back to MSF next week when the coast is sure to be clear and I’ve gotten it out of …
