Fit Friday: Treat-Yo-Self Superfood Cups

Happy Friday friends! Although I’m trying to get back into the healthy swing of things after our vacation, I still want to make sure I leave room for some decadence and have a treat when I have the craving. Instead of throwing it all out the window and giving into just any sweet treat I see, I make it a point to include a little nutrition so I’m not totally blowing it. In preparation for times like these, I like to make treats ahead that I can just grab when the urge strikes. I was looking through my refrigerator for some protein to include in my treat and came across pepitas (also known as pumpkin seeds). I bought these to throw on top of salads and oatmeal because they are filled with good for you protein, zinc, antioxidants and magnesium. I’m always on the lookout for magnesium because if you work out regularly your stores are most likely low and stress hormones increased (making it harder to recover and relax). So it’s very important to …

Wellness Wednesday: Your New Favorite Baking Ingredient

Happy hump day friends! I hope you are enjoying your week and continuing to get things accomplished so you are closer to a care-free holiday weekend. I am concentrating on work and continuing to tackle my Pilates teacher training hours while also giving some of my attention to MSF projects, all exciting stuff I can’t wait to share! In the meantime, I want to talk about the ingredient highlighted this week on Wellness Wednesday. I’m always searching for interesting trends in the health and wellness space and this is one that fascinated me. There has been a lot done in the past with the coffee plant. Green coffee beans were found to be helpful with metabolism so you started seeing them in weight-loss products. Coffee grounds applied to the skin helped with circulation and reducing the appearance of cellulite (see more here) so they were included in lotions and scrubs, and now there are studies out that show the benefits of using coffee flour instead of the common varieties we are used to (oat, white, wheat, …

Fit Friday: Simple, Satisfying, Tahini Squares

Happy Friday friends! I am keeping this short and simple today, this is a follow-up to my Instagram stories (if you watched a week or so ago I made these bars on a Friday night and said I would make again & MEASURE so I could tell you the recipe). Well here they are! Honestly these are crazy addictive, a little salty and sweet, the perfect texture and of course involve chocolate. The tahini has protein too which helps you digest slowly and feel satisfied. If you try them let me know what you think! I am having a super girly Friday night complete with Pilates, a face mask, and possibly a glass of rose 😉 Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and get out in this beautiful weather! MSF Tahini Layer Bars Base 1 c chopped walnuts 3 TBL raw organic honey ½ cup unsweetened shredded coconut optional 1 tsp water (if dough is not sticking together) Middle ½ c organic tahini pinch himalyan pink salt 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1/3 c …

Fit Friday: MSF Raw Mocha Almond Squares

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are having a great week and are headed into the weekend feeling accomplished or inspired. I have been plugging away at Pilates training and enjoying walking to classes in this summer-like weather we’ve been having. It’s been pretty warm so I haven’t been wanting to put my oven on to bake anything, but that doesn’t mean my chocolate cravings go away! I experimented with some things I had on hand and ended up with squares that were the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness and super simple to make, so I felt the need to share with you! These remind me of a chocolate brownie with a ganache-like consistency and a hint of coffee which gives that caffeine kick I am seriously addicted to. They are rich and luscious enough to feel sinful, but the ingredients are clean and raw and nothing to feel bad about. Win, win! You must try and make these to enjoy pre/post workout or to have when you need a little pick-me-up that feels decadent …

Fit Friday: MSF Peanut Butter Eggs

This weekend we are going to be home on the east coast with my side of the family. Easter was big in our house growing up and I have fond memories of Easter egg hunts, bunny-shaped goodies and the thoughtful Easter baskets Mom put together for us. One thing we could not get enough of in our house (my brothers especially) were the Reese’s peanut butter eggs that are only around this time of year. There is something about them shaped into an egg that just makes them taste different. Am I right? Once I began to get more into health and wellness, checking the ingredient lists of foods, I stopped eating treats like this because to be honest it was pretty scary what was in them (almost nothing real!). I decided a few years ago to have a go at re-creating these nostalgic treats because like us, my husband was a big fan growing up and we happened to be having a small west coast Easter that year. Having some peanut butter eggs would …

Fit Friday: MSF Brownie Batter Balls

Happy Friday!! I feel like celebrating because we all made it through the week after springing forward. I don’t normally complain about the time change but WOAH, this time change did me in. I know I’m not alone because everyone I came in contact with this week has brought it up. Anyways, I relied heavily on matcha lattes, cold brew, and chocolate to get me through. Now on the other side and facing the weekend I thought this was a perfect opportunity to link my second “how to” video on YouTube. Eek! It’s like the scariest thing ever for me and I don’t really know why. I love to talk, I love to make yummy/healthy things, I love to teach…so what’s the big deal? Well I’m working on it, and hoping to make it more and more natural so it’s not so painful for you guys to watch. Until then, bear with me and hopefully you’ll find a few of the videos useful! This one was shot by my dear, patient husband who insists it’s …

Fit Friday: You Have My Heart 4 Ingredient Truffles

Happy Friday! Was it just me or did this week seem to DRAG? It could be because I am on my way out of town for a weekend away, or just because there’s been a lot going on. Whatever the reason, I am extremely grateful and in need of  a trip to one of my absolute favorite places. I will do a follow-up “recap” post with all the highlights. Stay tuned! Until then, I’m still in Valentines Day mode because…why not? Love is in the air and it’s been fun to see the romantic side of everyone. The other thing I can’t get enough of is all the holiday treats, especially the chocolate. Ugh the chocolate. Just because we’re on MSF doesn’t mean we have to miss out on all the decadent treats this time of year. Yes we’re trying to stay fit and mindful of our habits, but it’s important to maintain balance in everything. I like to incorporate something healthy in my treats (as you may have noticed) but also cook with as …
