Wellness Wednesday: Dandelion Root Tea

How is it already halfway through the week? Summer days seem to go by so quickly, no? I’m excited about today’s post because I feel like it’s not only in reference to wellness but is also a fit tip. Who doesn’t want a skinny hack every now and then? I found dandelion root tea first out of curiosity and then again in a recipe for a detox tea. When I was in college a friend of mine who was French was always referring to how they grew up on dandelion greens and how they were full of nutrition. I thought this was a little out there at the time because the only exposure I had to dandelion anything was the weeds that my dad had me pulling out of our garden and lawn. Then I tried them in a salad and, if you’ve ever had them you will understand, I was very put off by their bitter flavor. Now my taste has become a little more accustomed to them and I try to incorporate them …

Fit Friday: 4 Simple Rules for a Successful Detox

Happy Friday friends! I took a day off (you may have noticed the absence of a Wellness Wednesday this week) and I feel like I’ve been gone forever. I’ve missed you all! I hope you had a fantastic Fourth of July full of fun and festivities. If you’ve been following along on Instagram or picking up on my subtle sign-off’s on here you know I’ve been doing a bit of traveling. I was fortunate enough to go back East to see my family and then take a family trip to Greece. I plan on doing a full recap here so stay tuned! After traveling one of the first things I do (besides laundry) is get a plan in place for a little detoxing. I don’t mean signing up for an extreme juice cleanse or scampering around for things to undo the “damage” I did while I was away. Instead I look at it as a way to get back on track and feel better. I’m not sure if I’m alone in this, but there are …

Motivation Monday: Mind Cleansing

Happy Monday everyone and happy fresh start to the week! I have to say this past weekend got me REALLY inspired and I can’t wait to continue to share all the great things with you. I love this platform for so many reasons but I’m also getting into Instagram and particularly Instagram stories because of the interaction. I love the fact that I can connect with you instantly and it brings us closer on this journey, so fun! One of the things I came across I found in a magazine I was reading, they were discussing mind cleansing. It’s something they have been implementing for quite some time in England (props to England for always being ahead of the health and wellness trend!). There are actual resort style retreats set up across the countryside of England that cater to mind cleansing and are spreading in popularity. I love to travel, and my favorite way is with my husband who is as equally down to walk the entire city we are visiting looking for local fare, …

Motivation Monday: 5 Simple Ways To Start A Digital Detox

We are all guilty of it and it’s not our fault. Technology is taking over every square inch of our existence and it seems like it happened overnight. I remember growing up when there were days, even weeks I didn’t see a screen or touch an electronic device. Now it seems there is not a room or object in my home that is not connected to technology somehow (I even have an electronic toothbrush!). It’s insane to think of the world without these conveniences we’ve come to rely so heavily on. Whenever I feel a lack of creativity I go outside. Taking breaks to walk Finley or even flip aimlessly through a magazine have been helpful. If you find your inspiration lacking, eyes twitching, or mental capacity maxed-out I urge you to take a digital detox. The health benefits you will receive include (but are SO not limited to) improvement of sleep, critical thinking skills, social interactions, creativity, productivity and  a decrease in anxiety, stress and insomnia. I will make it easy and list five …

Wellness Wednesday: Detox To Retox w/ Charcoal

With one holiday over and another on the horizon there’s one word I’ve been focusing on this week: DETOX. After consuming more than I usually do (especially in the cocktail department) I am in need of some serious detoxing before we pop another cork this weekend. The recent buzzword for detoxing in the health and wellness circuit has been activated charcoal. I first saw it used in a drink on a trip to DC a few years ago. I went to a juice bar looking for something to help with jet-lag and jump start my system and the sales associate suggested a ginger/lemon juice with activated charcoal. I was hesitant at first because I never saw charcoal used in this way (the color of the juice was black!), but took a chance and actually felt much better after I finished the juice. It took some getting used to and I have to admit the color was the hardest thing to get passed, but after awhile I didn’t notice it as much and the energizing effect …

Wellness Wednesday: Top 5 Reasons You Should Try Cupping

This past week I indulged in some self-care and got some cupping done. This is something I have done from time to time when I felt like I needed a little more than a typical acupuncture or massage session. Most people that saw my back after a session would have a similar reaction, WHY?! It looks like it could be painful because of the bruise-like appearance cupping leaves behind, and most westerners were not aware of this eastern practice until it made headlines in the recent Olympics. Michael Phelps (USA Olympic gold medalist swimmer) had some markings on his shoulders and stories began flooding news circuits about cupping and the benefits it can bring. Athletes in particular look to cupping when they are looking to recover faster and to find some relief in tense areas of the body. For me, cupping has always been a spiritual cleansing-like ritual. I feel lighter when I leave and do feel a sense of relief from tension and stress. After leaving my most recent session, I felt compelled to …

Fit Friday: 3 Ways To Get Back On Track Post Holiday

Lets be honest. We took a few too many fun-size candy bars out of the trick-or-treater’s candy bowl, indulged in a couple extra ghoulish cocktails, and gave in to the festive holiday baked goods in the lounge at work. Whatever your poison, it’s not uncommon to indulge a little around the holidays. The fact that we have these celebrations and do just that C E L E B R A T E once in a while should be just that, a celebration, an uncommon occurrence and we move on. I have to say letting go once in awhile from an otherwise pretty vanilla existence when it comes to my diet changes it up and gives me something to look forward to…and work off. Now comes the fun part, getting things back into gear and amping up the diet and exercise game because in just a few short weeks we are at it again, celebrating thanks and spending time with loved ones. So to get back on track I follow three simple things. 3 Simple Rules to Get …
