Happy hump day friends! I’m not gonna lie, my energy levels have been LOW this week and I am chalking it up to the June gloom we are experiencing here in SoCal. I know this is the last place in the country where we should be complaining about the weather but it seems to be affecting people’s moods because it’s something we’re not used to. It’s amazing how the minute you start experiencing something other than the norm you realize how much a thing like weather or temperature can affect you. Fit Friday: MSF Kale-Basil Pesto

We are rounding third base, headed for the weekend and I am ready for a weekend of celebrations beginning with tonight at the Padres stadium where a dear friend of mine will be honored on the field. I can’t wait to watch some baseball with some of my favorites! It’s been a little while since I’ve done a YouTube video and even longer (maybe ever?) that I’ve shared a simply fit savory recipe so I decided to start with one of my favorites. Pesto. Tis the season for grilling, summer veggies and of course pizza-all perfect avenues for pesto! I chose to do a dairy-free version which is a little different than traditional pesto as it doesn’t involve cheese and I don’t stick to just basil, I add kale for a nutritional punch and rich green hue. By eliminating cheese I had to incorporate something that gives the same creaminess so I subbed pine nuts with cashews and it did the trick. Mushrooms are having a moment in the health and wellness industry. No longer are they categorized as just fancy infused oils, pizza toppings or for psychedelic trips, they are impacting wellness in a major way. Fit Friday: MSF Raw Mocha Almond Squares

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are having a great week and are headed into the weekend feeling accomplished or inspired. I have been plugging away at Pilates training and enjoying walking to classes in this summer-like weather we’ve been having. It’s been pretty warm so I haven’t been wanting to put my oven on to bake anything, but that doesn’t mean my chocolate cravings go away! I experimented with some things I had on hand and ended up with squares that were the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness and super simple to make, so I felt the need to share with you! These remind me of a chocolate brownie with a ganache-like consistency and a hint of coffee which gives that caffeine kick I am seriously addicted to. They are rich and luscious enough to feel sinful, but the ingredients are clean and raw and nothing to feel bad about. Win, win! Coconut oil has been all the rage. While the health benefits and versatility of what it can do are impressive, I feel like it’s been done…we know it’s amazing and we understand what it can do for us. Fit Friday: MSF Peanut Butter Eggs

This weekend we are going to be home on the east coast with my side of the family. Easter was big in our house growing up and I have fond memories of Easter egg hunts, bunny-shaped goodies and the thoughtful Easter baskets Mom put together for us. One thing we could not get enough of in our house (my brothers especially) were the Reese’s peanut butter eggs that are only around this time of year. There is something about them shaped into an egg that just makes them taste different. Am I right? Once I began to get more into health and wellness, checking the ingredient lists of foods, I stopped eating treats like this because to be honest it was pretty scary what was in them (almost nothing real!).
