Fit Friday: Jump! Jump!

Happy Friday friends! I hope you’ve had a great week so far and have some fun things coming up this weekend. It is my last weekend of in-studio learning for Pilates teacher training, which is kind of unbelievable…it’s gone by so quickly! I’m looking forward to having a little less structure on the weekends and more time to practice teaching and observe classes. I’m thinking of doing a Pilates highlight each week with tips and tricks, what do you think?  I wanted to keep things straight to the point and simple for this fit Friday and I am super excited about this one! Jumping rope has always been a fun way to incorporate cardio into my circuit training or for a quick 10 minute warm up. You may or may not be impressed to know that I won first place in our grade school’s Jump Rope for Heart competition. I was the last one standing out of my entire grade…we can breeze over the fact that I only had 60 kids in my entire grade …

Fit Friday: MSF Raw Mocha Almond Squares

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are having a great week and are headed into the weekend feeling accomplished or inspired. I have been plugging away at Pilates training and enjoying walking to classes in this summer-like weather we’ve been having. It’s been pretty warm so I haven’t been wanting to put my oven on to bake anything, but that doesn’t mean my chocolate cravings go away! I experimented with some things I had on hand and ended up with squares that were the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness and super simple to make, so I felt the need to share with you! These remind me of a chocolate brownie with a ganache-like consistency and a hint of coffee which gives that caffeine kick I am seriously addicted to. They are rich and luscious enough to feel sinful, but the ingredients are clean and raw and nothing to feel bad about. Win, win! You must try and make these to enjoy pre/post workout or to have when you need a little pick-me-up that feels decadent …

Fit Friday: Dining Out? 4 Simply Fit Rules To Stay On Track

It’s been a total whirlwind this week getting back into the swing of things after being away and catching up on Pilates training and work. I LOVE traveling and crave the inspiration and perspective it gives me but also enjoy coming back to a routine and being productive. All the eating out I was doing while traveling and celebrating with family and friends inspired me to do a little guide to eating out if you’re trying to keep things fit and trim for the upcoming bathing suit season like me. Eating out does not have to be a daunting thing and can be quite manageable if you are equipped with the right tools and information. So here it is, MSF guide to eating out. 4 Simply Fit Rules When Dining Out Plan ahead-if you know where you’re going ahead of time GREAT! This gives you some information on the menu and what is offered there. Skim the menu online or while you’re waiting to be seated so you can prepare yourself mentally and choose something …

Fit Friday: MSF Peanut Butter Eggs

This weekend we are going to be home on the east coast with my side of the family. Easter was big in our house growing up and I have fond memories of Easter egg hunts, bunny-shaped goodies and the thoughtful Easter baskets Mom put together for us. One thing we could not get enough of in our house (my brothers especially) were the Reese’s peanut butter eggs that are only around this time of year. There is something about them shaped into an egg that just makes them taste different. Am I right? Once I began to get more into health and wellness, checking the ingredient lists of foods, I stopped eating treats like this because to be honest it was pretty scary what was in them (almost nothing real!). I decided a few years ago to have a go at re-creating these nostalgic treats because like us, my husband was a big fan growing up and we happened to be having a small west coast Easter that year. Having some peanut butter eggs would …

Fit Friday: The 411 On Superfood Elixirs

While they are a convenient way to incorporate healthy additions to your foods, superfood powders and supplements can begin to resemble potions and elixirs if you don’t know what they’re for or what to do with them. It can be overwhelming trying to decipher trending superfoods and what their actual purpose or benefits are. To make it simple I included a little cheat sheet below of popular ones and how you can integrate them into your diet. Maca (Root) Benefits: increased fertility (both male & female), hormone balance, immunity booster, increase in energy, stamina, memory & focus Forms: root is ground into powder How to use: mix in smoothies, smoothie bowls or juice Cacao Benefits: excellent source of monounsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals, protein and other nutrients as well as rich antioxidant properties Forms: powder or nibs How to use: mix in baked goods, protein balls/bars, smoothies, smoothie bowls, oatmeal or on top of yogurt Spirulina Benefits: rich in chlorophyll (gets its energy from the sun), high in protein and a great source of antioxidants, B …

Fit Friday: Snack Attack Remedy…MSF Granola Recipe

Happy Friday friends! I have to say I am pretty ready to say hello to the weekend. It’s been a week filled with studying, practicing Pilates and of course the usual 9-5 job. No complaints here because I am BEYOND excited about the material I am covering in my teacher training and feeling more inspired every day, just a little tired 😉 I did leave some time this week to play around in the kitchen a little and created a yummy adaptation of a granola I was gifted by the chef we hired for my birthday dinner in Santa Barbara (shout out to Mark!). While his was RIDICULOUS, I am assuming it was not completely MSF-approved, because why would it need to be? But for those of us who would like to incorporate granola into our daily routine, I wanted to lighten it up a bit and fill it with nutritious ingredients. I included things such as cinnamon, Himalayan pink salt, and power seeds because by now you know how ride or die I am …

Fit Friday: 5 Exercises to Strengthen Your Core

There are countless reasons you need to have a strong core and most have nothing to do with how you look in a bikini 😉 A strong core helps alleviate back pain, balance and stability, posture, form during exercise, child birth, the list goes on. It isn’t difficult to work on strengthening your core and the best part is you can start today with no equipment needed I’ve included five of my go-to core strengthening moves below and I recommend incorporating these into your daily exercise routine at least a few times a week. Without further ado, here they are! 5 Exercises To Strengthen Your Core Boat pose-raise legs into a V position with shoulders back, hands reaching straight forward as if trying to touch your toes. The idea is to keep our abdominals engaged and tight to keep you balanced. Bridge toe taps-with finger tips facing forward, lift into bridge position with shoulders back and hips level. Slowly raise and lower each leg, one at a time being mindful to raise one leg at …
