Fit Friday: Light & Fit Guacamole

Happy Fridayyyy! Summer is officially here for me because I am on break and getting ready for some summer travel. Whenever I think of summer meals I go lighter. I’m not sure if it’s the heat that makes me want to eat this way or the idea that I’m going to be in a bathing suit, regardless I’m always looking for inventive ways to go leaner in these months. A staple side at every summer barbecue is hands down, guacamole. There is something about that rich green hue, satisfying creamy texture and how it’s the perfect accompaniment to those crispy tortilla chips or chopped veggies. While avocados are full of healthy fats and boast so many benefits (more here), some of us may be looking for an alternative if we just can’t resist polishing off the entire bowl (not so great for the waistline) or just had some avocado toast for breakfast so looking for a different route at lunch or snack time. Regardless the reason, I have the perfect lightened up alternative to feed …

Fit Friday: Refreshingly Fit Watermelon-Rita

Helllooooo Friday, it’s so great to see you. Was there a full moon this week? Not sure if it’s just me or if you felt it too but there were some interesting vibes this week. Anyway, I’m happy to see the weekend on the horizon where I’ll be celebrating my little sis turning 25! And all the festiveness long weekends bring. As an ode to this summer-like weather we’ve been having, I wanted to include a light and refreshing cocktail to enjoy this weekend that is not only festive but also MSF approved. When I think of summer gatherings (especially outdoors in the sun in) my mind goes to margaritas. The only thing worse than a warm watered-down cocktail in the heat is one filled with nasty ingredients that you can’t pronounce and a week’s worth of sugar. This watermelon margarita will not only be too tasty to leave sitting for any length of time, it has ZERO added sugar and only natural ingredients (tequila is from nature, right?). As you may know by now, I’m a …

Fit Friday: Jump! Jump!

Happy Friday friends! I hope you’ve had a great week so far and have some fun things coming up this weekend. It is my last weekend of in-studio learning for Pilates teacher training, which is kind of unbelievable…it’s gone by so quickly! I’m looking forward to having a little less structure on the weekends and more time to practice teaching and observe classes. I’m thinking of doing a Pilates highlight each week with tips and tricks, what do you think?  I wanted to keep things straight to the point and simple for this fit Friday and I am super excited about this one! Jumping rope has always been a fun way to incorporate cardio into my circuit training or for a quick 10 minute warm up. You may or may not be impressed to know that I won first place in our grade school’s Jump Rope for Heart competition. I was the last one standing out of my entire grade…we can breeze over the fact that I only had 60 kids in my entire grade …

Fit Friday: MSF Raw Mocha Almond Squares

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are having a great week and are headed into the weekend feeling accomplished or inspired. I have been plugging away at Pilates training and enjoying walking to classes in this summer-like weather we’ve been having. It’s been pretty warm so I haven’t been wanting to put my oven on to bake anything, but that doesn’t mean my chocolate cravings go away! I experimented with some things I had on hand and ended up with squares that were the perfect amount of chocolatey goodness and super simple to make, so I felt the need to share with you! These remind me of a chocolate brownie with a ganache-like consistency and a hint of coffee which gives that caffeine kick I am seriously addicted to. They are rich and luscious enough to feel sinful, but the ingredients are clean and raw and nothing to feel bad about. Win, win! You must try and make these to enjoy pre/post workout or to have when you need a little pick-me-up that feels decadent …

Fit Friday: Dining Out? 4 Simply Fit Rules To Stay On Track

It’s been a total whirlwind this week getting back into the swing of things after being away and catching up on Pilates training and work. I LOVE traveling and crave the inspiration and perspective it gives me but also enjoy coming back to a routine and being productive. All the eating out I was doing while traveling and celebrating with family and friends inspired me to do a little guide to eating out if you’re trying to keep things fit and trim for the upcoming bathing suit season like me. Eating out does not have to be a daunting thing and can be quite manageable if you are equipped with the right tools and information. So here it is, MSF guide to eating out. 4 Simply Fit Rules When Dining Out Plan ahead-if you know where you’re going ahead of time GREAT! This gives you some information on the menu and what is offered there. Skim the menu online or while you’re waiting to be seated so you can prepare yourself mentally and choose something …

Fit Friday: MSF Peanut Butter Eggs

This weekend we are going to be home on the east coast with my side of the family. Easter was big in our house growing up and I have fond memories of Easter egg hunts, bunny-shaped goodies and the thoughtful Easter baskets Mom put together for us. One thing we could not get enough of in our house (my brothers especially) were the Reese’s peanut butter eggs that are only around this time of year. There is something about them shaped into an egg that just makes them taste different. Am I right? Once I began to get more into health and wellness, checking the ingredient lists of foods, I stopped eating treats like this because to be honest it was pretty scary what was in them (almost nothing real!). I decided a few years ago to have a go at re-creating these nostalgic treats because like us, my husband was a big fan growing up and we happened to be having a small west coast Easter that year. Having some peanut butter eggs would …
