Wellness Wednesday: Toxic Beauty, What Are You Applying To Your Skin?

I am a creature of habit and one thing I do not skip is applying a daily moisturizer. For as long as I can remember I have applied lotion all over my body post-shower EVERY single time no matter what. I have a thing with dry skin, it’s itchy, doesn’t look great and I’m convinced it ages you faster. While I’m consistent with the application and pride myself for being on top of this self-care ritual, I can’t say I was always careful with checking what ingredients were in my lotion. Lotion doesn’t just sit on top of our skin, we absorb it through our skin rather quickly. If you’re like I was, you really didn’t give too much thought as to what you were slathering all over your skin. The truth is we were/are literally applying a toxic substance to our largest organ, letting it become absorbed into our bodies without even thinking about it! In most of the brand name lotions we use there are dozens of ingredients that have been found to …

Motivation Monday: The Power of Music

Happy Monday everyone! The start of the week is a great opportunity to set some goals and add an intention to set the tone for your week. I was feeling a little overwhelmed on Saturday morning thinking of all the errands, homework, research, laundry, etc. I was trying to accomplish before I was due to my Pilates studio lesson. I knew I would be in class for 5 hours so I was trying to make the morning as productive as possible. I noticed my anxiousness and in result tried to slow down and see what I could do to prioritize what needed to be done first. I sat down, made a list beginning with the tasks that were time sensitive. Once everything was on paper, I began to feel a little better. Next I made myself a nutritional breakfast knowing the day I had ahead and all the energy I needed to power me through the day. Lastly, I turned on our speaker in the kitchen and BLASTED my favorite playlist. Before long my list …

Fit Friday: MSF 20 Minute HIIT Anywhere, Anytime Workout

We are all busy and having an efficient workout to cycle into your fitness routine that you can also do anywhere (literally could do this in a hotel room) AND only takes 20 minutes sounds right up my alley. I’m a big proponent of high intensity, interval training-something to get your heart rate up and have you burning calories even after you’re done working out (so good, right?). I also think it’s important to mix up your moves from standing positions to sitting/laying down ones to make your body work to get that blood pumping in different directions, maximizing your burn and workout. For this Fit Friday I’ve included a go-to routine that I do when I’m pressed for time and feel like I need to get my sweat on. I do this in my tiny living room and don’t really leave the space of my yoga mat. So here it is, a routine you can do in your hotel room, small living space or even outside! MSF 20 Minute HIIT Anywhere, Anytime Workout *8 moves, …

Fit Friday: Simple Ways To Stay Simply Fit

Happy Friday! We made it through the first week of the New Year! Whether you’re still recovering from the holidays, in full swing of your resolutions or just simply kicking it into high gear this week-it’s an accomplishment to get to the other side and still remain inspired. To gain traction on our resolutions or simply make this year about efficiency and living a healthy existence more accessible, I compiled a list of go-to ways I fit in exercise that I use when I’m strapped for time, can’t make a class or want a little extra that day. -YouTube-I can’t say enough about YouTube. It has been a standard of mine that I use as recently as January 1st when I committed to a challenge put on by the yoga channel I subscribe to. It’s a 30-day yoga program where you can watch FOR FREE (unless you choose to donate) and practice 30 minutes-1 hour of yoga everyday for a month. I chose to start this in January for the sole purpose of grounding myself in …

Motivation Monday: R&R To Slim

With the New Year approaching and the time off I’ve had for the holidays there’s been plenty of time to reflect on this past year and more importantly on what I plan for the upcoming one. Starting this blog has been more than a creative outlet for me, it’s almost therapeutic and with content research I feel like I’ve been learning a ton and been given an excuse to learn more about the things I’m interested in. While I don’t plan on slowing down with content about health and wellness, I will say all trending diet and claims I’ve covered thus far inspired me to set an intention for the New Year and write this post. I plan to do away with any restrictive eating, activity, mindset, etc. in the New Year. Why? Because the one certainty I’ve found about dieting is-the more you restrict, count, and even think about your diet or losing weight, the further you are setting yourself back. This concept can be extremely difficult for people to grasp because control is …

Fit Friday: Festive Pomegranate Bark

Holiday season is in full swing and I could not be more in the spirit! I am indulging in the festiveness this time of year brings in a BIG way. I found myself indulging a little too much this week with all the treats and gifts coming through our home and at work. To ensure I don’t go too far off the deep end, I am keeping up with my regular workouts and making a plan to meal prep and prepare some things that satisfy my cravings that I know are nutritious too. The most important thing to remember around the holidays is to not make such a big deal or beat yourself up over the foods you don’t always have. Giving these foods power over you by labeling them “bad” or off limits will only make you want them more and indulge later. Pick up the brownie, enjoy every bite and move on. With that said. It is always a good idea to set yourself up for success by bringing healthy options to your gathering …

Wellness Wednesday: Don’t Pass On Grass

You may or may not be familiar with the amazing benefits of consuming wheatgrass. Whether you are familiar or just reading about it for the first time, I hope you come away with something you didn’t know and hopefully are inspired to run to the nearest bar (juice bar that is) and order up a shot! There are a few people I know who’ve undergone complete diet and lifestyle changes as well as rigorous chemotherapy to fight the cancer in their body. All instances, although different types of cancer varying at severity and diagnosis, were recommended to take wheatgrass shots twice daily. I don’t know what it is exactly and I wouldn’t feel so passionate about spreading the word if I it wasn’t for the affects I felt personally. It is very simple. The days I take a shot of wheatgrass I have more energy and feel focused and the days I don’t, I don’t. I give fair warning though, wheatgrass takes some getting used to as it does taste similar to what I imagine lawn clippings …
